Homey Home Tour

Ready for another Dreamy Dwelling Home Tour!?!I love taking you along on home tours!  Dreamy Dwellings are a total blast because we get to snoop enjoy some totally inspiring home decor! Jody from Homey Home Designs has a heart of gold and a home that matches perfectly!  She enjoys creating beautiful spaces that are functional and organized…take it away Jody!

I named my blog ‘Homey Home’ because that’s what our kids call our house. Our home started out as a basic builder grade home with carpeting and oak trim everywhere. We added in the hardwood laminate flooring and have gradually updated each space making it our own.

When we bought our house, 12 years ago, we were on year number 5 of 7 years of infertility. We had no children and didn’t know if God would ever bless us with any. We chose the best house for us thinking that if we were ever blessed with kids we would eventually need to move. Our home had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Its a tri-level plus a basement with a total of 1600 sq feet. Over the years we miscarried quintuplets and had 4 children, and we still live in our small home. We are in love with our neighborhood and that love plus a housing market that bottomed out helped us decide to make the best of what we have.

We don’t have a formal dining room, just a ‘dining area’. We made the most of this space by having benches built {by my dad!} to create banquette seating. This allowed us to tuck our table into the corner and have more pass through space. Painting this square on the wall helped to define this space in an open layout.

All the oak cabinetry was painted a fresh coat of white.

{Master Bedroom}

McKinley’s headboard was a budget friendly design. It was painted on!

Our kitchen redo is my favorite by far! It is amazing how much of a difference a can of paint can make. Check out the before pics here.

We knew we needed more room so we started by adding a third bedroom on the lower level and finishing off the family room and bathroom down there. This worked for a while but eventually we had to give up our family room and create a fourth bedroom in this space. This gives our three boys their own level. We still haven’t finished the basement but one day I’m hoping for a finished family room and perhaps even a craft space!

This is Camden’s room. My husband used a projector {you know, one of those dinosaurs we had in our school classrooms when we were kids!}

Braden and Hudson share this space. This is what used to be our family room, but it also makes a great bedroom space. We used the curtains from IKEA to create a closet space that they call their “workshop”.

The boys bathroom is a fun space that includes vintage details like my husband’s tractor and matchbox cars from when he was a kid.

We don’t have much of an entry way so building this bench with my dad gave us a little spot to put shoes or boots on.

Thank you for visiting Homey Home Designs!

    What a lovely space! Jody has a wonderful sense of style and the ability to fool the eye into thinking some of her rooms are much for spacious than I’m sure they are. Thanks so much sharing.

    Jody, your photos reflect a home that is filled with love, and children who are being brought up in the love and admonition of Christ. Your choice of Jesus’ words is such a healthy reminder in the midst of our “stuff-driven” culture. Thank you for sharing. I’ll be by to visit your blog later today, too!

    It looks like a home filled with love, and it’s so fantastic they’ve personalized it and updated it to suit their family. I’m so happy they were able to have four kids after all the issues with infertility. We went through something similar and I feel so blessed to have one happy and healthy son. I definitely never take him for granted. Off to check out Jody’s blog.
