ItsOverflowing Dreamy Dwelling Home Tour

After tons of searching for the right home, my hubby and I ended up purchasing a 1950’s ranch, in need of some serious TLC.  It’s funny to think that we ended up with a renovation.  When we started our search, our parameters couldn’t have been further from that if we tried.  But after lots of up’s and down’s, we realized that location meant a lot to us.  If we wanted the right neighborhood, we’d have to get something that needed work…and a lot of it, to be exact.  Luckily, I researched loan options and realized we could take advantage of a rehab loan.  That glorious product enabled us to not only purchase a home, but create a budget to transform things too.

 Barn Door in the Home
So in September 2011, we started renovating our little rancher…determined to remove all things “retro” from our outdated home.  While interior renovations went on through Christmas Eve 2011, we also tackled the exterior with a ton of help from my parents.  We removed the jungle-ish landscaping that had engulfed our poor property, painted our dreary house, added some new plants, mulched all the beds, removed some trees and dead limbs, replaced our roof, re-screened our back porch and even added a new patio.  We’d like to think we are no longer an eyesore on our street.

Even though the outside received it’s fair share of attention, a ton more was paid to the inside of our home.  When you walk into our house, you see our {now} open living/dining/kitchen area…we removed some walls to create an open kitchen/living/dining area, we renovated the kitchen {keeping the old cabinetry to help save on costs}, added a barn door, updated the lighting/electrical, replaced the windows, replaced the doors, insulated the attic, gut both bathrooms, refinished the original hardwood floors, replaced the garage doors and I’m pretty sure there are a few things that I’ve missed on that list.

During the winter, we made a few changes to the space, and switched up the curtains for something more, well…winter-ish.

Then when you head down the hall, you come to the first {and smallest} guest bedroom and a large linen closet on your left.

On your right, you have the main/guest bath and another large linen closet.  This bathroom was created out of the former guest and master baths.

Then at the end of the hall, there is a little file cabinet nook, our second guest bedroom {aka-my project storage} to the left, and our master ensuite straight ahead.

Besides our basement, this guest bedroom has received the least amount of attention in our house.  The only thing it is used for is storing my to-do list materials for numerous projects I have in the works.  It’s pretty blah and boring thus far.

We created a master ensuite (here).  The closet and bathroom space was created from our former third guest bedroom.

Since we had to use professionals for much of our main floor renovation, we had to be very cheap, errr, creative when it came to furnishing and decorating our new home.  If I didn’t get something second-hand or make it myself, then I certainly purchased it on sale or with a coupon code.

DIY projects: stenciled hallway, curtains, picture ledges, jewelry organizer, wall art, and more.  Wonderful Craigslist finds: dining room chairs, upholstered bench, bar stools, guest room nightstands, buffet, console table, master bedroom furniture, file cabinet helped me to stick to a budget, while still creating the look we desired.

This is absolutely amazing!!! You have emmaculate taste. I love everything you chose. I saw where you listed the grays you used in your beautiful home, but I was wondering about the blue/green color in the master? In the pic, it looks like a gray and then that blue/green contrasting color. Would you mind sharing the name of that paint please?

    Beautiful home!
Can you tell me where you got the living room curtains as well as the bedroom linens? Also, the paint colors?

    • Thank you! I actually made the living room curtains using Thomas Paul’s Dahlia fabric in Aegean. The bedroom curtains are Z Gallerie’s Geo panels, and I just cut them in two (lengthwise) to turn one panel into two.

The paint in our bedroom is Glidden’s Pebble Grey and in the living/dining room area it’s Behr’s Gentle Rain.

      I hope that helps! 🙂

  17. Jodi says:

Hi everything looks absolutely beautiful! It’s all very much my taste. Just wondering if you would mind telling me the names of the colour paint in the main bedroom and the grey in the dining room please?

    • Thank you so much! Sure, the grey in our master bedroom is Glidden’s Pebble Grey and the grey in our dining room/living room is Behr’s Gentle Rain. Hope that helps! 🙂

  18. What a transformation! I love everything you have done – the colours, the prints, so welcoming. I also love your cat! Your newest follower.

  19. Meghan says:

This house is amazing! Everything I’ve ever wanted to happen to my home. I’ve been trying to pick the perfect gray for my walls. Can you tell me what color paint you used throughout the home?

    • Of course! We used Behr’s Gentle Rain. I know grays look different depending the walls and light that hits them, but this was the “truest” gray for us. Good luck! 🙂
