Installing Cabinet Hardware

I haven’t had a chance to take close ups pics, but I wanted to share a little progress that has me smiling!  The month of August was spent working with a _______ contractor — I’ll let you fill in the blank.  September was a month of pure exhaustion and lots of baseball games.  But this month we’ve turned a corner!  It poured and poured this weekend, forcing us to stay home and finally make some kitchen remodel progress!!!  You may remember my big debate between three cabinet hardware styles (four, if you count the pulls I used on my rancher that many of you passionately love).  Ready to see my pick!?!

I found the center of the drawers both horizontally and vertically and drew a little plus, then overlapped my plus sign with the Cabinet and Drawer Template using the spacing that worked for my pulls.  Placing a level on top of the template to make sure the holes were even, I drew dots where I needed to drill.

When drilling, I first used a small wood drill bit so the wood didn’t split, followed by the drill bit that came with the template — the exact size needed for drawer pull installation.  I had planned on having Stud do this project, but he got started on some other projects (I’ll share more tomorrow) so I got started marking, then drilling — and ended up finding my groove!

And if you’ve been following, here are the pulls I decided on the Westerly Pulls.  To quote one of my readers, ‘They’re sophisticated and elegant and will go with any style.’  — Debra.  I totally agree!  They have a substantial weight and feel great in my hand.   And I like the knobs that coordinate better than any of the other knobs.  Speaking of knobs, I drilled the holes for the knobs in the spot I would need a hole if I ever replaced the knobs with pulls.

I’m thinking tomorrow I need a long before/after post so you can see the drastic change in here.

For all the craziness involved in this remodel, the results are priceless!
