Room Refresh Challenge – Dining Room

This post was sponsored by At Home Stores, but all the pics and opinions are my own. I was invited to partner with At Home as they launch their new Shanty2Chic furniture and decor line. It was a Room Refresh challenge with both rooms stripped of everything, except furniture. We could use anything in the store to create an entirely new look!

Such was a fun collaboration of two bloggers coming together to create a modern farmhouse dining room. Both of our homes are white and airy so we wanted to start with a light colored rug. Brooke loves white plush rugs, but functionality is so important to me.  Plush rugs and dining rooms aren’t a great match. My first choice is to incorporate a more durable jute rug as the first layer of the room. Thankfully, At Home has lots of options! We were able to find a jute rug that is heavily accented with white. On top of the jute rug is a beautiful faux cowhide rug for a pop of fun.

The next large space needing our attention is the large wall with dark gray paint. Since painting isn’t an option, we add a large mirror that would create the allusion of more space in this small defined area. At Home has an amazing selection of beautiful mirror.  Our large mirror is hung behind the dining room table. Then a rush to find the perfect chairs.

Compromising on chairs was a little more challenging. We both had a slightly different vision for our modern farmhouse dining room. Brooke wanted white metal chairs and I fell in love with a comfy modern chair. The suede-like texture was fabulous with our cowhide. Plus, these chairs could be pulled into the living room for extra seating! We brought both chairs back to the table and were relieved to see they worked well together. Brooke went to work on her favorite furniture in the room, Shanty’s bar cart, and Shanty’s bar cabinet. And I started planning the decor for Shanty’s table and Shanty’s coffee cabinet. Side note: Shanty’s shiplap wall clock is totally dreamy!!!

Texas temperature is below freezing. I’m so over winter. The arrival of spring was the perfect inspiration for the dining room. Succulents, wreaths, and potted plants would be my inspiration for the tablescape. At Home had a huge selection! The first plant in my cart was a Fiddle Fig. It’s my favorite, but a total pain to keep alive. Next, I grabbed a fern wreath. I’ve been seeing these everywhere, but not at this low price. I totally love it. Then I added lots of succulents, neutral pots, and a few arrangements. With a two-hour time limit to decorate the room, the premade arrangements were such a blessing! I can’t believe I was able to find all my greenery  under one roof.

At Home has an eclectic assortment of candlesticks and votive candleholders. I love the way the different metals work together. Often readers ask, what they can do if their house is already committed to silver? My response is always the same. Don’t be afraid to mix the metals. Silver, yellow gold, and rose gold look great together.

Grabbing a beautiful runner, dishes, napkins, and napkin rings, I was ready to style this modern farmhouse. So much to do and so little time and my partner hit a wall after the first hour, so I was on my own at this point. Thankfully, visions of a beautiful space kept me going at a fast pace, the entire two hours!

Room Refresh Challenge – Dining Room

Everything came together, even better than I envisioned. The room has great cohesion, tons of textures, and is totally inviting! Shanty’s farmhouse table is the perfect canvas not only for modern farmhouse, but really it can go any direction. Their furniture line is beautiful and extremely versatile. This Dining Room and our competitor’s Bedroom will go to an Instagram vote on January 29th. Crossing my fingers that I have your vote!
